Ten Minutes--seriously! I know many headband makers painstakingly sew, flip, iron, top stitch and attach elastic. This is my easy way of having a similar effect in 1/3 the time.
Materials: You will need the following: a 4"-6" x 22" piece of material (20" or 18" if you are making if for a child or toddler), a hair band of your favorite variety, thread.
Step 1: Cut your material to the appropriate size and iron flat.
Step 2: Fold in half lengthwise (the hot dog way for those of you with children) and iron.
Step 3: Fold one edge to the center and iron. Do the same to the other edge.
Step 4: Fold the material in half along the first iron mark and iron flat.
Step 5: Top stitch one side of the strip, then the other.
Step 6: Fold over 1/4" of end and iron. Fold that again 1/2" and iron. Repeat at other end.
Step 7: Place the hair band inside the flap created by the 1/2" fold and pin. Repeat at other end.
Step 8: Zig-zag along the casing for the hair band on each end.
Step 9: Wear!

nice! I love the idea of using the hair elastic at the bottom instead of some covered elastic.
I love this! Can't wait to make a few of them for myself and my daughter! Thanks for sharing!!!
GREAT Tutorial!!! I'm going to have my 10 year old daughter make some of these! I've been looking for an easy sewing project for her!
Exactly what I have been looking for, for my nieces! Thanks for sharing!!

how incredibly brilliant! love, love, love it. thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial! I just made a headband, and it really was ten minutes (including getting out the ironing board.) It turned out really cute.
oh that ROCKS! Thank you for the marvelous idea - my addicted-to-headbands-and-nothing-else daughter will be THRILLED with this!
Can I just say that you're a genius? I've never thought of using a hairband.
Thanks so much!
Better late than never, right? Love this... just made matching one for me to hide the bad hair day I'm havign!! Thank you!

what a great tutorial!
Great tutorial! I love the way you used hair elastics! I just gave you a shout out on my twitter feed (@shecrafty).
love the variety in colors. so nifty.
I just made one of these and it really is that easy. Thanks! I do wonder, though, if having the wide width all the way around, without tapering at the neck, will make the band tend to slide back. It seems like it is in the (granted limited) time I have had it on. Have you run into this problem?
I love your tutorial. Complete novice at sewing and are making these in double quick time for little girls around me. Thanks! Pics at http://www.flickr.com/photos/iwannabcreative/3492809958/

I LOVE this thank you! I have very few sewing skills, but I was able to do this. I am building "piles" for Christmas baskets and this is so far the best young girl teen addition. I actually simplified it,I bought bandana's at 10@$10.00 and cut them in 1/2 YAY

I'm teaching 6-11 year old girls in our church to sew this summer, but only by hand. We've modified this headband a bit, and what a hit!!
Fantastic! Thanks so much - just whipped up a couple tonight; such a great idea!

I am so going to make those! Thanks for the tutorial :)
Just wanted to say thanks again for this great tutorial. I made some for gifts this year and blogged about it here.
It really did take five minutes, even for me:) Thanks!
I've never sewn by myself (my mom was always helping me) but I made this for my first "by myself" project. It was so easy and really boosted my confidence is my sewing abilities! Thanks for the tute!!
I hope you don't mind, but I liked your project on my blog. Thanks!
What a great idea! Too easy - thanks heaps!
this was easy and inexpencive. my daughter is 12 and very fussy about head bands and hair ties. she had no complants about these she wants to bring some to school and find out if her friends want any. thanks for the great instructions.
GENIAL idea!!!
So I'll make one (or 2, or 3, ...)for my girl with these system! Thank you very much.
Thank you for this tutorial!! I have used another tut before and it was definitely a much longer process. With this I can make three in about an hour with my 5,3 and 22month old running around. Everyone gets a headband and mama gets to sew!
Just made one for my daughter -- so fast! Can't wait for her to wake up from her nap to try it on her.
Fine. I can wait for her to wake up from her nap. I'm a big fan of LONG naps... but I'm still looking forward to trying it on her!!
you're a genius! Thanks!!
Just now found this and I'm so glad I did! I can't believe it actually did take only 10 minutes! I found this on Friday and have made 5 headbands for my daughter and me :) Thanks for a cute and easy tutorial!
Thanks for the directions! I'm making some for my daughters for Christmas gifts.
Woah! That's slick! love it. I can't wait to try. I thought my way was pretty easy, but you beat me! Thanks for sharing! :)
Thanks for the tutorial - I made several and your directions were easy to follow! I love how they turned out! I linked you over at my site: www.addicted2tutes.blogspot.com Thanks!
Wow! I love it! I've made 2 for my mom so far, and I plan on making a few more for the both of us! Thanks for this wonderful tutorial! (When I get it up and running, I would like to share this on my craft blog, if that's okay with you. :D)
What a great tutorial! And you were right...SUPER easy! I linked to you!

This is so super brilliant!! You ROCK!!!!
Just pinned this on Pinterest tonight. This looks SOOOO incredibly simple and I've got tons of bits of fabric that I can use to make zillions of these, as well as more ponytail holders than any person would ever actually need. Thank you for sharing this!
